Our Story

Welcome to Birregurra Hall - a venue with the best sound and acoustics in The Otways.

Birregurra Hall is an ideal venue for community and private functions including meetings, weddings, celebrations, fundraisers, live music, theatre, workshops, fitness classes and memorials.

Recently the Hall has undergone some much needed renovation, landscaping and technical improvement as part of the Regional Arts Victoria Small Town Transformation project and the Australian Federal Government's Building Better Regions program.

The Hall is managed by a Colac Otway Shire appointed Section 86 Committee and is available for hire. All enquiries welcome.

Hall hire is available for community and public use

Hire the Hall

Built in 1884 for meetings, court cases, education and entertainment etc, a Mechanics Institute and Public Library functioned here, with a Reading Room for daily newspapers. From the 1920s to the 1960s films were regularly shown; and community singing, dances, balls, concerts, euchre parties and flower shows were other popular social activities.

The five separate areas for hire include:

Main Hall with a proscenium stage, dressing room, toilet facilities and heating/cooling. Seating capacity is 170
Supper Room, currently used for storage.
Seniors Room with access to outdoors (capacity 40)
Kitchen (can be used for commercial applications)
The Yards outdoors area with stage

Facility features include:

Full in-house production including sound and lighting
Cinema capabilities with laser projector and screen
Full audience accessibility with all abilities bathroom facilities, all abilities access (excl. stage) and disability parking spaces

Become a Friend of the Hall

The Birregurra Hall Committee is establishing ‘Friends of the Hall’ mailing list and is seeking expressions of interest.

Friends of the Hall is a community-focused initiative that aims to engage diverse voices in the development, participation and direction of arts, music, and local activities at the Birregurra Mechanics Hall.

All community members, organisations, businesses and interested parties above 12 years old are invited to register their interest.

You will be sent an info pack with additional information about the hall, its operations and membership requirements if you would like to join as a member of the Birregurra Hall Incorporated.
